Planet Funk
Planet Funk are an Italian band whose members
are based in Naples and Florence. Their music fuses house music
with electro, funk and rock. In 2003 their debut album ‘Non
Zero Sumness’ won three major music awards in Italy: best
band, best newcomer and best dance act.
The album was released worldwide and many live
events followed, from clubs to massive festivals, to broadcasts
on national radio and TV and MTV.
Sally got involved after they heard her work on
the internet in 2001. They invited her to Naples to co-write and
record three songs for the debut album.
“I was really thrilled
to be invited to collaborate. I wasn’t sure how it would turn
out because of the stylistic contrasts between us. I was a bit worried
that I would feel like a session singer and have to fit in, but
I didn’t at all. I was encouraged to be myself and not to
lose sight of my style. The result is really inspiring.”
—Sally Doherty, 2002
Sally was also invited to be a featured artist/writer
on the follow up album ‘The Illogical Consequence’ in
2005.
